Who We Help
Your generosity has given a "2nd chance" to the following pugs:

Pip
Pip came to the rescue at just 8 weeks old, surrendered by his breeder due to a problem with his front leg. It twists inward and he cannot put his weight on it. The breeder had taken him to a vet and had it looked at, but the vet told her that it would be costly to have it fixed, and recommended that she surrender the puppy to us. I picked him up on a Friday night, and he was SO tiny and so adorable....my heart just melted. I knew we had to do everything we could to help him. The first vet we took him to thought we should remove his leg, but I decided to take him to an orthopedic surgeon and see if there was anything that could be done. They can do a surgery that will fuse the bones, they cannot do anything to repair his elbow joint, it is crushed beyond help. So he will have stiff leg, but at least he will still have the leg! The saddest thing of all is that this was all preventable - the orthopedic surgeon has told us that these injuries are a result of the leg being pulled on as he was coming out of the womb. HE is not aware that he has a bad leg! He just has a wonderful personality and absolutely everyone who has met him has fallen love in with him.

Mimo

This is Mimo, who was helped through our Most Popular Pug Rescue Contest winner, the Dallas Fort Worth Pug Rescue. DFW Pug Rescue recieved $866 for Mimo.

This is Pugsley, and he's had a rough time in his short life. This lovable little 8-month-old pug came to PAWS & More after he'd been hit by a car. Someone scooped him up off the highway and brought him to us. We sent him to a specialist in Cedar Rapids where he underwent extensive surgery to both hips. He had an FHO procedure done on both sides and also had two plates put in his left leg.

Ray
Gunther Ray (aka RAY) is an adorable 3 month old pug that was surrendered to the shelter nearly blind, his family just couldn't handle it. His left eye had ruptured and his right eye was injured and had never been taken care of. Due to a horrible infection, Gunther has needed a LOT of surgery and several very expensive eye medications and medication to reduce infection. We have to try to save his right eye so he's not completely blind. Due to serious trauma and infection we had to do a RUSH SURGERY to remove his left eye and put a drainage tubes in place. We are hoping to raise $400 to help Ray so we can pay his medical bills and keep him healthy. This little bitty guy has been through SO much in such a short period of time. He is extremely sweet and we are all determined to help him through this. DUE TO GUNTHER's MEDICAL NEEDS, HE IS NOT UP FOR ADOPTION, once he's well, he will be transported to a Pug Resuce in NY who will keep up w/ his medical needs until he's healthy enough to be adopted.

Pinky
Pinky aka Maxie who had the seizures and has a hefty vet bill at around $1,000. I am happy to say it has been 9 days and not another seizure and her liver shunt test came back fine. Fingers crossed for her. She is 1 years old and a doll. Milwaukeepugfest donated to PPRA in support of Pinky. Please visit their site www.ppra.org.

Mochi
Mochi (formerly Moby) came from a Wisconsin shelter. He was dragging his legs, incontinent in both urinating and pooping. He also had a bladder infection. His teeth were horrible, and he also had kennel cough. He came into our rescue so once he finished his medication for the kennel cough and urinary tract infection, he had his dental. Xrays were also taken to see if he had any spinal defects. His xrays seem to be good, and the doctor believes he may have had a slipped disc or something. He is gaining mobility each day and seems to get along pretty well. We were told that he was somewhere around 8 yrs of age, but he acts much younger. He seems to have more energy then most of his foster pug sisters and brothers. He will remain in foster care until he is observed for a longer time to see if his mobility continues to improve. In addition to Mochi, Milwaukeepugfest will be sponsoring two pugs from Minnesota with severe health conditions. Further information on these pugs is forthcoming.

Miss Ellie

Tinkerbell and Harley
For those of you following the saga of Tinkerbell and Harley, the two pugs bailed out of the Ridgecrest kill shelter, I finally have some more detailed update information.
Tinkerbell has bladder stones. She is scheduled to have surgery to remove the bladder stones next week. The surgery will be performed by the wonderful people at the California Animal Hospital in West Los Angeles, which has an excellent surgical facility. Although her stones problem is serious, the vets think that she can absolutely survive the surgery. They confirmed that her jaw has been broken in the past, but it doesn't seem to affect her eating (just like a pug!).Bad news is that the surgery is going to cost about $1,500 to $2,000. So you know the drill. It's payday for most of us. If you can spare anything for Tinkerbell and Harley, even $5 or $10 dollars, please consider donating to Little Angles Pug Rescue, www.lapr.org. They take paypal or you can send a check to Little Angels Pug Rescue, PO Box 12242, La Crescenta, CA 91224.

Bitsi
Bitsi came to The DFW Pug Rescue from a military family. They had spent all they could and when they found out that Bitsi needed expensive test and possible surgery they called and asked if we could help. DFW Pug Rescue takes all Pugs regardless of age or medical condition so we said of course we will. We took Bitsi and had the necessary test done to confirm that she did have a liver shunt. The good news is, it is a shunt of the external variety and can be repaired with a fairly good chance of survival. Bitsi has been referred to Texas A&M for the surgery which is being paid for by Pug Lovers all over the world. The donations came in record pace and it only took three days to raise the $3000 needed. Bitsi thanks everyone who sent money and prayers her way and she expects a successful surgery. Details of her progress to follow. Milwaukee pugfest has donated in Bitsi’s name, please visit her site at: www.dfwpugs.com
